Education/Experience

Dr. Tachau received his undergraduate degree at New Mexico State University and went on to complete his doctorate in Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dedicated to continuing his education and knowledge, Dr. Tachau received postgraduate training in the use of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents, lasers, and minor surgical procedures of the eye and eyelids.

Known for his groundbreaking doctoral thesis on sports vision and his participation in a sports vision study of the 1984 United States Olympic Team, Dr. Tachau has an in-depth knowledge of how athletes use their visual system for excellence in sports. He applies those skills when treating patients for sports vision concerns. Other areas of special interest include contact lenses, glaucoma, diabetes, and low vision. 

Dr. Tachau has been a 40 year member of the American Optometric Association and has served two terms as a board member of the New Mexico Optometric Association. 

Personal Note

As a fan of sports, Dr. Tachau is an avid tennis player, golfer, skier, cyclist, and hiker. He lives with his wife Linda and their dog in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has two grown children, Jamey and Justin.
